“I Do” In Four Courses
This satirical and cheeky set of wedding china, a gift typically given to brides
in honor of their change of status, was created in response to the expectation in the
Midwest to find your groom within the four years attending college.
These plates parody tradition by repeating the faces of fantasy grooms from the romance novel, Pride and Prejudice. The significance of each course corresponds to a gentleman from the novel and is a metaphor for society and the type of husband women have been traditionally instructed to seek. When the setting is laid out, as shown below, the plates spell out “I Do.”
